Your student ID
As a student at Göttingen University you have the right to get a student ID after matriculation. This chip card identifies you as a student of Göttingen University. You can get your student ID for free at the chip card issuing point from studIT advisors in the main lecture hall building.
Your chip card serves as a library card and a semester rail ticket as well. You can also use your student ID as a means of payment at university, for example when paying in the refectory or for your printing credits.
For using these functions, you can add credit to your card at one of the money transfer machines by paying cash or by debit. After that you only have to put your card on a reading device at the refectory or at one of our studIT locations.
If you have lost your card...
If you have lost your card, you can first block it so that no other person can pay with it. For this, please call 0551 - 39 1171 . t Chip cards that were found anywhere on campus are sent to the Office of Student Affairs. That is why you should ask for your card there if you had lost it. At the Office of Student Affairs they also can unlock your card.
If your student ID could not be found, you can apply for a new chip card there as well. The costs are 8 Euros for a new student ID. The opening hours of the Office of Student Affairs can be found here. Please bring a valid ID card or passport for identification.

If your chip card is unreadable, broken, scratched etc., you have to go to the Office of Student Affairs and collect your new card there for 8 Euros. It often is the case that your cannot read the imprint on the chip card. The reason for this is the rewritable TRW stripe is damaged. Unfortunately this stripe cannot be replaced, that is why you need a new card, at what getting a new card at the Office of Student Affairs is inevitable.
