WiFi

With your Android device you are able to use the wireless networks (GoeMobile or eduroam) at Göttingen University to make use of a high speed internet connection.

Please note: By using Android devices you can either use the secure network eduroam or the unencrypted network GoeMobile. It is not possible to establish a connection via VPN.

The network eduroam (education and roaming) allows its registered user to gain access to the science network via service conformal WiFi access points. That is to say, accounts enable to use the WiFi in other research institutions which are connected to DFN (German research network) as well. The advantage is that the wireless network is encrypted (WPA2) and it is not necessary to use additional software to establish a connection. Additionally, it is easy to connect to eduroam, which can be seen in the following example, using a HTC Hero with Android 2.1 software (and the user ID maxi.musterfrau).

In the menu, go to Settings > WiFi and Network > WiFi settings

In WiFi settings, search for SSID “eduroam”.

After activating this item you will be lead to a form where you have to enter some information.

EAP-Method: PEAP
Phase-2-Authentication: MSCHAPV2
Identity: your own E-mail address, for students: userid@stud.uni-goettingen.de

Password for WiFi access: type the password of your student/ university account

To finish the authentication, click on “Connect”.

It is possible that you have to insert a so-called credential storage password when activating the SSID “eduroam”. If you do not know this password, just insert a wrong password again and again until the credential storage will be deleted. After that you will be able to enter a new password.

If the configuration is successfully completed, a secure and encrypted connection is ensured.
